How to Installing Google Play Store on Amazon Fire Tablets

Overview

Amazon Fire Tablets don't come with Google Play Store pre-installed, but you can add it yourself. This guide shows how to download the necessary Google services and install them manually. While Google doesn't officially support Fire tablets, the Play Store works reliably once installed.

What You'll Gain: Full access to over 3 million Android apps including Google apps (Gmail, YouTube, Maps) that aren't available in Amazon's Appstore.

Recent Update - May 15, 2025: We've confirmed these instructions work with all Fire tablet models, including the newest devices running FireOS 8.3.2.3 (based on Android 11).

Getting Started

Amazon Fire Tablets use Fire OS, which is built on Android. By default, these devices only allow apps from Amazon's Appstore. However, by installing Google Play Store, you'll gain access to millions of additional Android apps, including essential Google apps like Gmail, YouTube, Maps, and Chrome.

The good news is that adding the Play Store doesn't require any complex "rooting" procedures or connecting to a computer. You simply need to download and install a few APK files directly on your tablet. Once completed, your Fire tablet will have the same app access as standard Android devices.

Important: Before starting, remove any microSD card from your tablet. This prevents potential data loss during installation. You can reinsert it after completing the process.

Downloading Required Files

First, ensure you have a Fire Tablet from 2014 or later. Older Kindle Fire devices may not support this method.

Enable Installation from Unknown Sources

Follow these steps to enable installation from unknown sources:

  1. Open the "Settings" app from your tablet's home screen

  2. Navigate to "Security & Privacy"

  3. Select "Apps From Unknown Sources"

  4. Find "Silk Browser" and enable "Allow From This Source"

Identify Your Tablet Model

Next, you'll need to identify your tablet model:

  1. Go to Settings > Device Options > About Fire Tablet

  2. Note your "Device Model" name

  3. Check your Fire OS version at Settings > Device Options > System Updates

You'll need to download four specific APK files that are compatible with your Fire tablet model. Copy the appropriate links below into your Silk Browser.

Important: Download the files first, but don't open them yet.

When downloading from APK Mirror, be careful of misleading ads. Look for the legitimate "Download APK" button that shows a file size and matches the app's icon color. Look for the "Verified safe to install" message near the download button.

For ALL Fire Tablet Models:

Installation Process

After downloading all four APK files to your Fire tablet, follow these steps:

You must install the APKs in the exact order specified below. Installing them in the wrong order will cause the Play Store to not work properly.

Step 1: Locate Downloaded Files

  1. Open the "Files" app from your home screen

  2. Select "Downloads" from the side menu

  3. Switch to list view to see all downloaded files

Step 2: Install APKs in Order

You must install these APKs in the correct sequence. For each file:

Do not launch the Play Store yet after installation!

Install in this exact order (your filenames will be longer):

  1. com.google.android.gsf.login (Google Account Manager)

  2. com.google.android.gsf (Google Services Framework)

  3. com.google.android.gms (Google Play Services)

  4. com.android.vending (Google Play Store)

For each APK:

  • Tap the file

  • Select "Continue"

  • Tap "Install"

  • After installation completes, tap "Done"

Step 3: Restart Your Tablet

Once all APKs are installed, restart your tablet by holding the power button and selecting "Restart."

Additional Steps for Newer Models

Recent Update: As of our May 2025 testing, manual permission granting is no longer required on the Fire 7 2022 running FireOS 8.3.2.3. However, if you encounter issues, try the steps below.

If you have a Fire 7 2022 (12th Gen) or newer model running FireOS 8, you might need to manually grant certain permissions:

  1. Press and hold the Play Store icon

  2. Select "App Info"

  3. Tap "Permissions"

  4. Enable both "Phone" and "SMS" by switching them to "Allow"

Using the Play Store

After completing all steps above:

  1. Open the Play Store from your home screen

  2. Sign in with your Google account

  3. Browse and download apps as you would on any Android device

You now have access to the full Google Play Store catalog, including essential apps like YouTube, Gmail, Chrome, Maps, and thousands of other applications not available in Amazon's Appstore.

Troubleshooting

Future Fire OS updates might occasionally affect Play Store functionality. If this happens, you may need to repeat the installation process with newer APK files. As a last resort, you can factory reset your tablet and start over.

The Play Store and Google Play Services will automatically update themselves in the background shortly after installation. If you encounter any issues initially, wait about 10 minutes for these updates to complete.

If you can't sign in to your Google account:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps & Notifications > Manage All Applications

  2. Find and select "Google Play Services"

  3. Tap "Storage" > "Clear Storage" and "Clear Cache"

  4. Restart your tablet and try again

If apps won't download:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps & Notifications > Manage All Applications

  2. Find and select "Google Play Store"

  3. Tap "Storage" > "Clear Storage" and "Clear Cache"

  4. Restart your tablet and try again
